Reading look to stop the rot and win a first game in five against Bristol City.

Here are six players who played for both in the last 20 years.

Scott Murray

A teenage sensation with local Highland League side Fraserburgh, Premier League outfit Aston Villa paid £35,000 for the striker. Just four league games at Villa Park was a disappointing return and he went to Bristol City, where he would become a fan favourite in six years- racking up 250 appearances.

Alan Pardew spent £650,000 on the forward but he would stay for just one season, scoring five in 34 appearances in the Championship. In March, he returned to Ashton Gate and another 124 appearances secured iconic status.

Retiring in 2012, he is now the kitman for the Robins, as big a fan favourite as he was during his playing days.

Leroy Lita

Another striker, Lita was a tad more successful for the Royals than his predecessor Murray.

31 goals in 85 appearances for Bristol City caught the eye of many a club, but Steve Coppell spent a club-record £1,000,000 to bring the England Under-21 forward to the Madejski Stadium.

Continuing his fine form in blue and white, Lita hit 15 goals in his debut campaign as Reading romped to the Premier League with 106 points.

14 goals the following year, including an opening day winner against Middlesbrough, kept him in the headlines- but it was as good as it got.

Featuring less and less regularly until his departure in 2009, he went on to have a solid career with the likes of Swansea City and Middlesbrough- including a 12-goal season in 2010/11.

A goal scorer on his return to RG2 in May's legend's match, he is the manager of non-league outfit Hednesford Town.

Kaliffa Cisse

Signed by Premier League Reading in 2007, for a reported fee of just under £1,000,000, the Mali midfielder was a regular in the seasons immediately following relegation.

Scoring seven times, he appeared almost 100 times, the club he played for most in his 15-year career.

Coppell, the man who signed him in Berkshire, also signed him in Bristol in 2010, although Coppell had gone within a month of signing the contract.

Two years, and over 60 appearances, later- he left Ashton Gate to enjoy a journeyman career in places such as New England, Bangok and Derby.

He returned to Bristol in 2019 as a first team coach, where he remains.

Nicky Shorey

A teammate of Lita's, the former England international played over 300 times for the Royals across two spells.

Taking in time at the likes of Aston Villa and West Brom- his four-month stint in Bristol is less remembered.

Starting on trial upon release from Reading, he signed a short-term deal in League One and played 14 times until December 2013.

He went on to have spells with Portsmouth, Colchester and in India- but is now Head of Recruitment at Gillingham.

Alex Pearce

A club legend in RG2, Pearce made over 250 appearances for Reading after rising through the youth ranks, winning the Championship title in 2012 and captaining the side in the FA Cup semi-final in 2015.

Moving to Derby County on a free transfer in 2015, he spent the second half of the 2015/16 season on loan at Ashton Gate, playing seven times.

After 60 appearances for Millwall, he was released and moved to League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon in the summer, alongside former teammate Chris Gunter.

Sam Baldock

Similar to Murray, it will be Bristol City where Baldock is remembered more fondly than Berkshire.

Joining in 2012, after a frustrating season with West Ham United, it was in League One where Bladoick made his mark.

26 goals in 2013/14, with the Reds not being promoted, Brighton forked out £2,000,000.

Regularly the second striker, he hit double figures in one of his four campaigns, but he was vital in Chris Hughton's promotion winning side of 2017.

Reading spent a fee reported to rise to £5,000,000 on the Buckinghamshire-born striker in 2018, but just 11 goals in 74 appearances was a poor return and he was one of a number of poor acquisitions at a similar time.

He is now at Oxford United in League One.
