Reading boss Paul Ince confirmed that the Royals were awaiting the green light from an unnamed Premier League side regarding a loan deal for a left-back.

22-year-old Nesta Guinness-Walker was signed last month and has played all four matches so far this season, but the former England captain stated that he wants another experienced full-back in his squad- and they could arrive as early as this week.

With that in mind, we look at three Premier League left-backs that could make a temporary switch to Berkshire.

Reading Chronicle:

Baba Rahman

A rumour that refuses to go away, the Ghana left-back has been linked with a Reading return all summer.

Playing 30 times for the club last season, the Chelsea defender is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with a move to Reading and West Brom.

Asked specifically about Rahman last week, Ince commented: "If we didn't have an embargo we could go and get a player but because of the embargo, we have to be careful.

"There are one or two out there but we have to wait for another week before we can make that decision."

Jamal Lewis

A potential loser of the new Saudi takeover in the North-East, the former Norwich City defender was left out of their Premier League squad for the second half of the season with Matt Targett taking his place.

A Championship regular with the the Canaries, the 24-year-old is too good to be not playing and the idea of playing week-in and week-out could appeal.

With a good turn of pace, the current system with wing-backs could be ideal for the Northern Ireland international.

Niels Nkounko
Signed by Everton as a 19-year-old from Marseille, just seven appearances for the Toffees is not the outcome either party would have hoped for.

Still only 21 and spending last season on loan in Belgium, the attacking full back is out of contract next summer and will look to impress ahead of a big year in 2023/24.

Perhaps more of a risk than the other two options, especially given his age and lack of experience at Championship level, he has a promising future.
