Former Reading forward Jimmy Whitehouse has passed away age 87.

Arriving in Berkshire from Midlands outfit West Brom, for a fee reportedly of £250, Whitehouse was a first team regular for six years at Elm Park.

Third tier stalwarts for his time at the club, he scored 67 goals in 227 appearances for the Biscuitmen before departing to join Coventry City.

Playing out the rest of his career at Millwall and non-league sides such as Andover.

He and his family moved back to Tilehurst following his retirement where they would stay to this day.

Speaking to the Reading FC Former Players' Association, Whitehouse's daughter said: "“My Dad loved his time playing for Reading & made many local friends. When he left he played for Coventry FC, and when that contract ended, he and my Mum moved back to Tilehurst in Reading and bought their house because they liked the town so much."

Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.
