Bookmakers have released their odds ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Despite having been a regular feature of the top six for the majority of the 2020/21 season, the Royals are not heavily fancied by the bookies to make a return to the Premier League next season.
Reading has been given odds of 20/1 to win the league and odds of 13/2 to achieve promotion with Sky Bet.
Recently relegated Fulham and West Brom (6/1) are the favourites to lift the trophy at the end of next season, with fellow relegated side Sheffield United being given odds of 8/1.
Bournemouth (10/1), Swansea (14/1) and Nottingham Forest (18/1) lead the chasing pack in the bid to win the league.
Reading are joined by Barnsley, Cardiff, QPR, Middlesbrough and Stoke with odds of 20/1.
Sky Bet are also offering odds of 8/1 for the Royals to be relegated next season.
Blackpool (15/8), Peterborough (2/1) and Huddersfield (9/4) are the favourites to finish the campaign in the drop zone next season.
