A breakthrough deal to show the Women’s Super League on Sky Sports and the BBC was announced this week with a three-year deal worth between £7-8 million per year agreed upon.

Reading Women will benefit financially from the broadcasting agreement while Royals fans will be able to watch the action from next season on mainstream TV, dependent on TV selections, including BBC One and Sky Sports main event.

Sky will be showing up to 44 matches across their platform over a ix of channels such as Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Football, Sky One and Sky Sports Mix.

Available through free-to-air TV there will also be 22 live matches across the BBC with 18 games on BBC One or BBC Two.

In the new deal, 75 per cent of investment revenue will be split between the 12 top-tier teams which include Reading.

There will be a weekly WSL game shown live on the BBC while Sky will show at least two fixtures with match slots on Friday evenings, Saturday lunchtimes and Sundays.

With Sky becoming the main broadcaster, an increased coverage will be introduced with pre-match build-up, interviews, post-match reaction and daily news snippets across their platform and media outlets.

Sky Sports Managing Director, Rob Webster, said; “We are delighted to add the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to our expanding football portfolio. Our goal is to bring our customers more of what they love, and we are certain the WSL will be a success with our football-hungry viewers.”

The FA director of Commercial and Marketing, Kathryn Swarbrick added, "This is a multi-million-pound commitment from Sky that is going to help push the women's game on even further and support our ambition of having the best professional women's sports league in the world.”

It looks to be an exciting time for Reading in the top tier of the game. The side currently play their home games at Madejski Stadium and have been training at the former men’s training complex, Hogwood Park with the intention of joining their fellow professionals at Bearwood.

The current deal with BT Sport and the BBC will come to an end where games have been able to be viewed via the BBC red button.

Kelly Chambers’ Royals are in action this Saturday and the game can be watched live via the BBC red button as they face a 17:30 league trip to Manchester City.
