READING manager Veljko Paunovic will potentially have a much stronger squad to choose from on Saturday following possible injury returns for key players.

The Royals journey up to the East Midlands for a tough test against Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest, however key stars such as Yakou Meite and Ovie Ejaria may be back in contention after spells on the sideline.

Ivorian Meite has been missing since a groin injury picked up in a 0-0 draw against Stoke City in February, and despite being close to returning for the last couple of weeks this weekend could be the day in which he finds himself back in the matchday squad for the first time in over a month.

Similarly, Ejaria has been missing for a week after straining his hamstring, but Paunvoic has confirmed that he is recovering well and a late call on his fitness will be made ahead of the match with the Tricky Trees.

Speaking to the press before the game, the Serbian said: “He [Ovie Ejaria] is recovering well, we expect him to be a last-minute decision.

"Yakou is very good so we will see how much we can involve him this week in the upcoming games so it’s getting better.”

There is also more good news on the injury front, with crucial midfielder Andy Rinomhota edging nearer a return after two matches out.

The former Player of the Season winner had a hamstring niggle in a 1-0 win over Rotherham United.

On-loan Everton defender Lewis Gibson is yet another player nearing a return to the first team but will face a late call.

Paunovic said: “Andy [Rinohmota] is progressing very well and we expect him to be like Ovie a last-minute decision. Lewis [Gibson] is recovering well too, we are expecting him to be involved and it’s a last-minute decision.”

Other key injury concerns, including John Swift, Michael Morrison and Felipe Araruna will be some weeks away from returns, with the Brazilian Araruna having to see a specialist after a setback.

“Swift is still recovering good but away for some time. Felipe [Araruna] is seeing a specialist today to determine moving forward. He had a setback so hopefully today we have some good news after he sees the specialist. Morro [Morrison] will need a bit more time.”

Last time out against Nottingham Forest goals from Lucas Joao and Morrison sealed a 2-0 win in front of 2,000 supporters for the first time this season, and Paunovic is expecting another tricky match up.

“I think it is going to be a tough game. I think they are a good team, they’ve improved and now we’re going to have a different game but we’re also a different team and I would dare to say a better team than we were back then so we will be looking to give our best.

“For us, we always look forwards, we look ahead. We are chasers and we have goals.

“It’s a very important part of the season, the opportunity is there and we have to embrace it, we have to work and do our best to be at the point of the season where every detail matters. The next opponent is the most important one.”
