Reading travel to Yorkshire on Saturday to face Rotherham United in the Championship.

The Royals' promotion bid suffered another blow on Tuesday night, falling to a 1-0 defeat away at lowly Wycombe Wanderers.

Veljko Paunovic's side will know that Saturday is a must-win game as the Royals look to return to the form that saw optimism and expectations build in the first half of the campaign.

We spoke to chief Rotherham United reporter Russ Vernon from the Derbyshire Media Company who gave an insight into what Royals fans can expect from the hosts on the weekend.

With four defeats on the spin, would you say that Millers fans are dreading this game – or confident of producing an upset against an out-of-sorts Reading team?

I would say the fans are dreading this game.

Four defeats on the spin have included defeats against AFC Bournemouth and Norwich City who were promotion favourites at the start of the season are two games which they didn’t think they could get anything from.

They also lost to Cardiff in snowy conditions and on Tuesday 23rd February they lost to Nottingham Forest in a game in which some fans were calling a six-pointer.

Would you say the Rotherham’s current position is a fair reflection of the performances so far this season?

I wouldn’t say it’s solely down to the performances is why the Millers are in the relegation zone at this moment in time.

The problem I think is the reason why they are down in the position in the table is a mixture between performances and a few key injuries to a few players who would cause problems for the opponents when the teams come up against the Millers.

Despite only having a -1 goal difference at home so far this season, there have been double the amount of defeats as victories for Rotherham on home soil. Could you pinpoint why this is?

Potentially it’s down to the way some teams pressure the Millers on certain occasions during the games.

I also think missing a few key players to injury and not having a replacement in the squad which has seen the Millers play with five at the back with two wing-backs with three centre backs.

Who are the key men that could hurt Reading on Saturday?

When I first read this question two players jumped out at me straight away as potential players that could hurt the Royals on Saturday and they are midfielder Matt Crooks and striker Michael Smith.

The Millers tend to play with Crooks and Smith as a two-up top with this system they are using this season and both players have more often that not combined for goals for the Millers.

Score prediction?

I’m not very good when it comes to this kind of think as I thought the Millers would have beaten Nottingham Forest in their last outing.

The Millers will be forced into at least one change at the weekend with Michael Ihiekwe missing out through suspension and Richard Wood who normally comes into the side missing out through injury.

With that in mind and still missing a few players through injury I’ll go for a narrow victory for the Millers.

Rotherham 1-0 Reading.
