A late rally from Brentford dented Reading's automatic promotion hopes as the Bees ran out 3-1 winners.

The Royals took the lead through Lucas Joao in the first half but Brentford equalised soon after.

Two goals in the last ten minutes meant Brentford return to West London with all three points.

Here's how the Reading team played on the night.

Rafael Cabral - 5

Not much he could do about Da Silva’s strong finish and could do nothing about the second, either. Should have done better with the third, however, having parried a shot straight into Toney’s path.

Andy Yiadom - 6

Strong running from the right back in the first half resulted in a number of good crosses which found their targets more often than not.

A solid return for the fan favourite after a lengthy lay-off.

Michael Morrison - 8

Played a beautiful cross-field pass to Ejaria to set up the opener.

A crucial second half intervention denied Brentford from taking the lead early in the second half before another stunning clearance stopped a tap-in with 12 minutes to go.

The skipper was unlucky to be on the losing side after a terrific display in which he couldn’t do much about Brentford’s second or third.

Tom McIntrye - 6

A solid if unspectacular night for the academy graduate. Kept things ticking over in possession.

Omar Richards - 6

Made a crucial interception just before the Bees’ opener and played a number of good passes forward in the first half but also wasted some opportunities to cross.

Should have done better with Brentford’s second, when Toney rose above him to set up Da Silva’s finish.

Josh Laurent - 6

A more offensive display from the tireless midfield man in the first half. He won the penalty after getting into the box and was unlucky not to score after doing so again just before the end of the first half. Quieter in the second half.

Andy Rinhomota - 5

Good link-up play with Yiadom and Olise down the right. A steady display like Laurent.

Alfa Semedo - 4

The box-to-box midfielder deputised for the injured John Swift and did okay in the first half, showing some neat touches, but was largely anonymous. Subbed for Aluko with 20 minutes to go.

Ovie Ejaria - 5

Some nice trickery on the far left created some dangerous chances for the Royals and his skills led to the game’s opener. Anonymous in the second period.

Michael Olise - 5

A quieter game for the teenager, who found himself in some good positions down the wing on occasions. His delivery from set pieces needed improving, however, as several crosses went unmet.

Lucas Joao - 5

Squeezed his penalty in but they all count. Showed courage to step up again after his miss at Preston. He came close with a header in the first half which was saved well by Raya.

The frontman found himself offside on a few occasions and grew visibly frustrated with little action in the second half.
