Reading Women confirmed the signing of exciting midfielder Silvana Flores on Saturday.

The Canadian born Mexican youth player joins the Royals from fellow WSL side Chelsea. The 18-year-old failed to make a senior appearance for the Blues after joining from Arsenal’s academy in the summer of 2020.

Flores was named on the bench for Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Man United but remained an unused substitute.

She was a member of the FIFA Under 17 World Cup squad for Mexico that come runners-up in the 2018 tournament as well as featuring for the Under 20 squad that qualified for the latest U20 World Cup.

Flores received her first senior international call-up during the 2019/20 season while with the Arsenal academy.

The midfielder has spent this season training with world class talent at Chelsea including midfield players such as Melanie Leupolz and Ji So-Yun. She also featured in Arsenal’s 2019 Emirates Cup campaign featuring against Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Royals boss Kelly Chambers told the official club website; “Silvana is an exciting young player who has so much desire to want to be better. I am looking forward to working with her. Silvana will add some good depth and strength to the current squad.”

Flores will look to make her senior competitive debut for Reading this season as she provides depth for a Reading side operating with a small squad.

Wearing number 24 for Reading, the 2002 born player will look to compete for a midfield spot where the Royals are low on numbers.

Fellow midfielder Jess Fishlock MBE is due to head back to the United States after the next WSL tie with Everton as her loan spell from OL Reign concludes.
