It’s been a busy week for transfer news around the Championship as the second week of the window hits full swing. Below Ben Waite takes a look at what’s been happening around Reading FC’s second tier opponents.

On the incoming front, Stoke City turned to the Premier League for reinforcements bringing in Jack Clarke on loan from Tottenham and Rhys Norrington-Davies on loan from Sheffield United after his recall from Luton Town.

Blackburn Rovers also made a loan move from the top tier with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite making his Rovers debut last weekend.

QPR were another club to make a loan signing with Hull City’s Jordy de Wijs making the move back up to the Championship with a view to a permanent deal at the season climax.

A series of permanent deals have been completed this week with Ben Whiteman making his Preston debut last weekend after moving from Doncaster.

Cardiff City have added young striker Max Watters to their ranks form Crawley Town while Sorba Thomas has swapped Borehamwood for Huddersfield on a permanent deal.

Free agents Jack Wilshere, Kal Naismith and Andre Green have new clubs in the second tier joining Bournemouth, Luton and Sheffield Wednesday respectively. Wilshere returns to the Cherries after a spell with them in the Premier League in 2016.

Saman Ghoddos has been on loan at Brentford this season and the Bees activated a clause to make the move permanent from French side Amiens this week as they look to challenge for promotion once again. 

Three former Royals have been on the move this week with Ben Hamer making a switch from Huddersfield to high flying Swansea on a permanent deal. Another ex-Royals stopper in Jonathan Bond has landed a dream move to LA Galaxy after being a free agent while Lucas Piazon left Chelsea for Braga after a ten-year spell with the Blues.

On the outward front a host of loans for players yet to have a fair shot in the Championship this season have occurred with a sprinkling of permanent deals across the country.

David Davis parted company with Birmingham City before signing for Shrewsbury Town on a free transfer while Simon Power departed Norwich City for Harrogate Town on a permanent deal.

Jake Taylor (not the ex-Royal!) left Nottingham Forest to join up with Port Vale on a permanent transfer while QPR star Bright Osayi-Samuel has agreed a pre-contract agreement with Turkish giants Fenerbahce to depart Loftus Road at the end of the current season.

Another departure from QPR will be Dillon Barnes who heads for Burton Albion on a loan deal while Mickel Miller has swapped Rotherham for Northampton on a similar deal.

There were two incomings at League One Hull City this week with Dan Crowley joining on loan from Birmingham alongside Cardiff’s Gavin Whyte.

Elsewhere, Rumarn Burrell has joined Bradford from Middlesbrough, Isaac Hutchinson from Derby to Forest Green, Ben Jackson to Bolton from Huddersfield and Nick Freeman from Wycombe to Leyton Orient all in loan deals until the end of the season. 

Finally, Reading’s midweek opponents Coventry City have had one out, one in with Marcel Hilssner debuting for Oldham last week after joining on loan and Viktor Gyokeres arriving at the Sky Blues.

The Brighton striker was recalled from his spell with Swansea City before joining Mark Robins side on loan until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
