The Royals are targetting a couple of signings in the January window, according to manager Veljko Paunovic.

The January transfer window has been quiet across the EFL and Reading have been no exception to the trend, having not made any new additions to the squad so far this month.

Rumours linking the club with a move for Portugese striker Pedro Mendes have returned after the 21-year-old was heavily linked with a loan deal in the Summer.

Paunovic refused to comment upon the speculation after Tuesday's win against Coventry City at the Madejski Stadium, saying that it would be 'inappropriate' to discuss any potential move for the Sporting Lisbon striker.

The Royals boss did, however, suggest that the club are hoping to add two new players to the squad before the end of the month.

The Serbian manager said: “We have enquired for a couple of Premier League players on loan, but at this point, we have been told to wait.

"We will knock on the door every day though.

"We won't be too aggressive but we will be consistent and perservere in asking to get the players we want.

"My personal goal would be two [new signings] given what the team needs, I think we need depth in the backline and a player who can affect in the final third.

"Given the games we have and as you can see, with Olise's shoulder injury, we have to be ready for replacements and be ready to have competition for the team."
