Here are our player ratings from Reading’s 2-1 win over Luton Town at the Madejski.

Rafael – 4

Will be disappointed to have let LuaLua’s late effort past him. Nearly caught out late on after taking far too long on the ball. Again, his distribution left a bit to be desired at points. Otherwise, it was a relatively quiet afternoon.

Michael Morrison – 7

Wore the captain’s armband in place of Liam Moore and led the defence really well. Won his fair share of 50/50’s and was an imposing presence in the heart of the back-line throughout the afternoon.

Tom Holmes – 6

Slotted alongside Michael Morrison at the heart of the defence and showed his versatility with a good showing, reacting quickly to deliveries coming in from the flanks and positioning himself well to deny Luton many clear-cut chances.

Tomas Esteves – 5

Spurned a great chance to play Baldock in behind in the first half with a poor pass. However, he was much more solid defensively and put in some crucial challenges out wide.

Tom McIntyre – 7

Scored his first goal for the club with a wonder-goal to open the scoring. Was very brave in the tackle and in the air and battled superbly for every ball. Perhaps a touch lucky not have given away a penalty for one of those aforementioned brave challenges but got away with it.

Josh Laurent – 8

Another display of superb fitness and technical ability from Laurent. Broke up the play expertly, continued to drive forward in possession when other players would have tired and looked like he could have completed another 90 minutes at full time.

Andy Rinomhota – 7

Complimented the work done by Laurent superbly with a similarly tenacious showing. Disrupted Luton’s flow and imposed himself with a tireless display. Only criticism would be I’d of liked to see him impact the game a bit higher up the pitch and support the attacks.

Sone Aluko – 6

Picked up an assist for McIntyre’s opener with a superb set-piece routine which was expertly delivered. Faded as the game went on but looked really dangerous in the early stages.

Alfa Semedo – 6

Bagged his first Royals goal after linking really well with Sam Baldock on the edge of the area. Ball retention and eagerness to show for his man was a little off, but certainly put in an important shift in a more advanced role.

Ovie Ejaria – 5

Struggled to stamp his mark on the game as he was left isolated out wide far too often. Needed to force the issue a little more. A few nice touches here and there, but an otherwise quiet afternoon.

Sam Baldock – 6

Grabbed an assist for Semedo’s goal and displayed fantastic willingness to run all afternoon. Showed good movement with a number of well-timed runs in behind, which were not picked out more often than not by his teammates.

SUBS

John Swift – 5

Came on for his first appearance since a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Not a hugely influential display but showed willingness to come short and pick the ball up.

Tennai Watson – N/A

Didn’t feature for long enough for a fair rating.
