Here are our player ratings fro Reading's 2-1 defeat at home to Birmingham City.

Rafael - 5

Could do little about either goals from Jon Toral, both of which were very accurate strikes. Looked a little shaky with a few balls into the area

Tom Holmes - 4

A rare off day this season for Holmes. Left too much space on his flank and needed to contribute more in an attacking sense - which we've seen previously that he is capable of doing.

Liam Moore - 4

Struggled to deal with the movement of Hogan and allowed the Blues forward to get into threatening positions on numerous occasions. Wasted possession a few times with balls into the channel that eventually became predictable.

Michael Morrison - 5

Won a lot in the air and battled well for the ball and positioned himself well to get in the way of danger. Lost his composure a little bit in the second half as he continually berated the officials.

Omar Richards - 7

Energetic display from Richards who covered a lot of ground up and down the left wing. Relatively solid in a defensive capacity as well.

Andy Rinomhota - 5

Picked up an assist for Meite's goal but sadly that was the height of his display. Not as energetic and as quick to close down in the middle as we're used too, but much of that could well be down to fatigue after so much football in a small space of time.

Josh Laurent - 6

Linked the defence with the creative players well and put in some nice tackles to regain the ball as well as applying good pressure.

Yakou Meite - 6

Got the opener as he gambled at the front post and won the penalty, which looked a touch soft, after being set free. Very quiet in the first half. Came off with a worrying looking injury late on.

Ovie Ejaria - 4

Produced a few nice touches to get out of danger areas but was too slow on the ball and allowed Birmingham to regroup as he meandered on the ball.

Michael Olise - 4

Uncharacteristically quiet from Olise who never really made his mark on the game. Set-piece delivery was off his usually high standards, as was his ball retention as he struggled to cope with the physicality of the visiting players.

Lucas Joao - 3

Spurned a golden opportunity from the penalty spot to draw the game level, which ultimately cost Reading dear. Could've also had a goal late on after Esteves' free-kick but missed the chance. Isolated for long spells.

SUBS

Tomas Esteves - 6

Came on for Holmes and gave a bit more of an attacking threat from the full-back position. Nearly created a second goal with a smart free-kick.

Sone Aluko - 5

Looked to attack the back line with some purposeful runs.

Alfa Semedo - 6

Eager to get on the ball and attack Birmingham. Added some tempo to Reading's relatively slow attacks.
