Reading hope to get back to winning ways on Saturday lunchtime as they travel to newly-relegated AFC Bournemouth.

Below we look at the things you should know about the Cherries.

Recent Background

Not becoming AFC Bournemouth until 1971, the club are not too dissimilar to Reading! Joining the Southern League in 1920, they joined the Football League in 1923. Since then they have spent the majority of their time in Division Three [League One] bar a successful spell in the 1980s in which they reached the Second Division, and since 2013 when they have since enjoyed five seasons in the Premier League.

Despite being 121 years old, for many it was not until the Eddie Howe years that people sat up and took notice.

The former Cherry took over the club bottom of League Two and administration and led them to a league high of ninth in the Premier League, with a short-lived spell at Burnley in between.

This season they have started better than many had expected considering they are trying to navigate a season without Howe for the first time in five years, with his former assistant Jason Tindall jumping into the hotseat.

The club are sat fourth, but can leap into first with a win over Reading and results going their way.

Ones to Watch

Having just dropped down from the Premier League, it goes without saying that the their squad is full of talent.

According to WhoScored, their most used set-up is a 3-4-3.

In goal it is former Stoke City and Chelsea keeper Asmir Begovic.

A back three, although it is a five without the ball, includes club legend Steve Cook, Chris Mepham and Diego Rico; with former Reading academy graduate Jack Stacey and Adam Smith offering the wide support going both forwards and back.

Jefferson Lerma and Danny Gosling offer strength and guile in the midfield, whilst Junior Stanislas, Arnaut Danjuma and Reading- born Dominic Solanke all offer threat going forward.

Further players not previously mentioned includes Lewis Cook, Philip Billing, Josh King and summer transfer target for Veljko Paunovic, Rodrigo Riquelme.

Last Meeting

With the sides having been in different divisions for the last five seasons, the two sides have not met in a competitive fixture since April 2015, a 1-0 win for the Cherries.

However the side have met in a friendly, Jaap Stam’s first game in charge of Reading on home soil, in July 2016.

Lewis Cook opened the scoring for the Premier League side but John Swift scored his first goal in Reading colours to equalise.

Overall the two sides have met 112 times since 1923, with Bournemouth edging the head-to-head with 45 wins to Reading’s 42.

In fact, Reading have not beaten Bournemouth in seven attempts, the last win coming in April 2001 with Jermain Defoe opening the scoring before Jamie Cureton and Martin Butler quickly replied to turn the game on its head.
