Here are our player ratings from Reading's 1-0 home defeat against Luton Town in the Carabao Cup.

Luke Southwood - 6

Produced a few good stops in the opening half and could do little about Luton's opener. Commanded his area well and communicated effectively with the defence.

Ethan Bristow - 5

Was left exposed at points but as the game progressed he improved and supported the attack well.

Tom Mcintyre - 8

Very impressive again from Mcintyre who displayed maturity in his performance and looked sharp on his return to the side. His positioning was very good as well, especially when the ball was swung into the box.

Tom Holmes - 7

Great showing from Holmes who imposed himself on the game and was physically very impressive. Put some key blocks in and definitely didn't shy from getting stuck in. Distributed well.

Felipe Araruna - 5

Looked to push forward at every opportunity and support the attack but occasionally wasted chances to break with slow passing.

Tennai Watson - 4

Watson was okay. He was playing in the middle and adapted to the new role quite quickly but unfortunately looked to play the safe ball far too often.

Dejan Tetek - 6

A good debut from Tetek, who looked creative and displayed confidence that you wouldn't necesserily expect from a debutant. Looks to be a good asset for the coming season.

Sone Aluko - 2

His first half effort which ended up going out for a throw pretty much summed up his night. Started okay, faded as the game progressed and never looked a threat. Looked aimless at points when he did get on the ball.

Marc McNulty - 2

Playing out wide McNulty failed to impress again, looking off the pace. He surrendered position far too easily and never looked like stamping his authority on the game.

Sam Baldock - 2

Snatched at the few chances he got and didn't pose the Luton defence nearly enough problems. Captain on the night, but that was not evident in the slightest.

George Puscas - 2

A bit of a throwback to some of the games during Bowen's tenure. Isolated up front and failed to make any runs that would cause the defence issues. Tentative.

SUBS

Lynford Sackey - 6

Impressive cameo from Sackey, who looked direct and purposeful in possession.

Neither Nahum Melvin Lambert or Nelson Abbey featured for long enough to give a fair rating.
