Reading FC boss Veljko Paunovic spoke of his delight at his sides showing in the opening day triumph against Derby County at Pride Park.

Goals from Lucas Joao and Ovie Ejaria gave Reading all three points in Paunovic's first game at the helm.

Speaking after the game, the new boss said: "More than anything I am very grateful for the effort and performance of the players.

"We had a fantastic spirit. We respected the plan, we were consistent and we played good football, especially in the first half.

"Today I saw the team I want to have. I saw the potential. But that is the challenge. The challenge is to keep that.

"It is a very good beginning, but we haven't done anything yet.

"But, today I am very happy and very grateful for a great performance that the guys gave today.

"I was very happy that I could see in the team today, never giving up.

"When you have the opportunity to dominate, dominate. Keeping control and being creative in attack.

"And then when you have to fight - because you have a good team in front of you - you saw the team spirit.

"That is the bottom line, what we expect."

Lucas Joao caught the eye again, scoring his fourth of the campaign in all competitions after he completed a hat-trick last weekend in the Carabao Cup victory over Colchester.

Speaking on his performance, Paunovic said: "I really liked what I saw. I think there is an upside on his game

"If he comes out to every game like he did today with the 'eye of a tiger' and he's never satisfied with a performance or what he's achieved so far, then we're going to have a fantastic performance this season."

Liam Moore was named as the captain today, with Paunovic praising his leadership attributes post-match.

"He deserved it, because of the attitude and communication he has shown.

"People should have another chance. There must be a commitment to that and we have connected very well."

Paunovic confirmed after the game that central defender Tom Mcintyre will be available for the upcoming fixtures, following a spell away on international duty.

He also confirmed that Ovie Ejaria was taken off as a precaution but at this point, it does not look as if the injury is serious.
