It’s been a busy two weeks across the Championship as Reading’s 2020/21 rivals prepare for the new season.

With less than a week remaining until the first league game this weekend, we take a look at the business being conducted by the Royals opponents for the season ahead.

In arguably the biggest transfer news of the week, Bournemouth sold striker Calum Wilson to Newcastle United for a reported £20 million.

Ex Cherries winger, Ryan Fraser also made the move to the Magpies.

Barnsley have been quiet recently and hope their young side can do the job this year. They did announce the signing of free agent Isaac Christie-Davies and the Tykes look strong after defeating Nottingham Forest in the League Cup last weekend.

Birmingham City faced a shock defeat by Cambridge United in the cup after announcing an array of signings recently.

Adam Clayton, Jonathan Leko, Ivan Sanchez and Jon Toral have all been announced by the Blues recently while Blackburn welcomed back striker Danny Graham and signed experienced goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski from KAA Gent.

Last season’s play-off runners up, Brentford were pleased to announce the marquee signing of striker Ivan Toney from Peterborough United in a move that turns heads in the league.

Another member of the Bees squad that will increase an already high firing front line.

Bristol City have been busy in the transfer window this summer with Fulham defenders Alfie Mawson and Stephen Sessegnon their latest arrivals.

The duo join on loan from Fulham while five Bristol City players have been loaned out by the club.

A familiar face to Royal fans joined up with Dean Holden’s side as ex loanee, Chris Martin has signed a contract with the Robins. Experienced midfielder Chris Brunt also joined the club to bolster their ranks.

Cardiff suffered the biggest cup shock of the round losing 3-0 to Northampton Town. They have signed Jordi Osei-Tutu on loan from Arsenal and Sheyi Ojo on a similar deal from Liverpool.

Coventry City also turned to Arsenal for a loan with Ben Sheaf joining the Sky Blues, Leo Ostigard made a loan move to Coventry from Brighton while Tyler Walker joined the club permanently from Nottingham Forest.

Reading’s first week opponents, Derby have not purchased anyone over the last two week’s although they have said goodbye to full backs Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe who departed for Sheffield United.

Luton Town have been busy this week signing three players. James Bree, Tom Lockyer and Rhys Norrington-Davies have all joined to strengthen a leaky defence meanwhile Huddersfield Town announced the signing of goalkeeper Joel Perreira from Manchester United and Pipa from Espanyol.

Millwall announced a double signing from Derby with Scott Malone and Mason Bennett arriving at The Den while Championship returnees Norwich continued their signing spree with the loan arrival of Ben Gibson from Burnley.

There were a trio of arrivals in Nottingham as Luke Freeman, Miguel Angel Guerrero and Fouad Bachirou were named Forest players while Matty Cash departed the club to the Premier League linking up with Aston Villa.

A former Reading academy player was on the move this week as Rob Dickie joined QPR from Oxford United.

The centre back was joined by former Swansea midfielder Tom Carroll at Loftus Road while Eberechi Eze made the step up to the Premier League signing with Crystal Palace.

Rotherham United welcomed a duo of goalkeepers with both Jamal Blackman and Viktor Johansson signing for the Millers. Yorkshire neighbours, Sheffield Wednesday also said hello to two new players announcing that Josh Windass and Elias Kachunga had become Owls.

Another former Royal loanee was also on the move this week as Glenn Murray returned to the Championship. The veteran striker joined Watford on a season-long loan from Brighton and will face competition up front from another new striker as Stipe Perica signed from Udinese.

Finally, Championship new boys Wycombe Wanderers are deep into preparation for their debut season.

They bolstered their ranks with four signings this week as Ryan Tafazolli, Daryl Horgan and Curtis Anderson joined the Chairboys while defender Jason McCarthy returned for a second spell after helping the side achieve promotion last season.

With the start of the league season bearing down, teams will be hoping to put the final preparations in place over the coming days, as the 2020/21 Championship season is nearly upon us.
