Here are our player ratings from Reading's 3-1 Carabao Cup triumph over Colchester United at the Madejski Stadium

Luke Southwood - 6

Was left relatively helpless for the opening goal, with Jevani Brown catching the young 'keeper out with a deft flick at the near post.

Didn't let this affect him and played with composure, commanding and communicating with the outfield players with real confidence. A solid competive debut.

Felipe Araruna - 7

A quiet but effective afternoon for Araruna at right back. Supported the attack with some nice interplay and overlapping on the right-hand side and defended competently.

Michael Morrison - 6

Kept the visitors at bay in the first half after they started the brighter of the two with some important and brave blocks. Occasionally guilty of being out of position but wasn't punished.

Liam Moore - 6

Back with the captains armband, Moore defended valiantly and put his body on the line as he threw himself in front of several goalbound efforts. Needed to defend a little closer to Morrison at times, with a big gap emerging in the first half.

Ethan Bristow - 6

Grew into the game after a somewhat shaky opening in which he was beaten a few times and looked to be out of position on occassion. Strengthened as the game continued and began exploiting gaps on the left wing well in the second half.

Josh Laurent - 6

Full of energy in the middle of the park but struggled to win the physical battle in the first half. Spurned two good chances from corners in the second half, but improved off the ball alongside Rinomhota.

Michael Olise - 8

A joy to watch. He went passed opponents like they were mannequins at certain points and always found a yard of space to kick-start Reading's attacks. With braver runs, he could've notched a few more assists.

Sone Aluko - 5

Eager to get on the ball and took responsibility in possession but failed to produce much of note.

Marc Mcnulty - 4

Withdrew at the break after failing to make much of an impact in the first half in an unfamilliar position. Looked to make the right runs but never really looked much of a threat.

Sam Baldock - 5

Made some good runs in behind but only had one shot of note in the first half to show for it.

Lucas Joao - 10

A perfect hat-trick. What else do I need to say? A fabulous showing from Joao.
