In a week where the EFL fixtures were released, it has been a busy week for the Championship.

A host of player movements, kit releases and sponsorship deals. Below we look at the news from the league over the past week that can indirectly affect the Royals.

Swansea City confirmed this week that they will be scrapping the sponsorship of a betting company on their shirts. The Swans have been sponsored by betting companies for the last four years, but in a bid to move away from these, they have agreed a deal with Swansea University for the upcoming campaign.

Chelsea loanee, Marc Guehi has also re-joined the side on loan after a successful spell last season.

On the transfer front, it has been a week full of deals with the transfer of Aaron Ramsdale from Bournemouth to Sheffield United leading the way. The goalkeeper returned to the Premier League for a fee of £18.5 million after the Cherries relegation.

Meanwhile fellow relegated side, Norwich City have added to their ranks with the arrival of Villarreal defender Xavi Quintilla on loan and a permanent deal for Jordan Hugill from West Ham, who spent last season on loan at QPR.

Bristol City capitalised on Wigan’s financial troubles completing a move for midfielder, Joe Williams. The 23-year-old makes the step back to the championship becoming Dean Holden’s first addition at the Robins.

Derby County also stepped in to the Wigan raid tempting goalkeeper David Marshall to the club. Marshall will cover the position left by veteran shot stopper, Scott Carson who has re-joined Manchester City on loan from the Rams for a second season.

It has been a busy week up in Yorkshire as Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday all confirmed player acquisitions. Barnsley picked up Dominik Frieser from Austrian side LASK while Rotherham signed Wes Harding from Birmingham City both for undisclosed fees.

Two Chelsea players moved to Yorkshire on loan deals this week with midfielder Izzy Brown continuing his personal tour of the county signing for his fourth Yorkshire loan side agreeing to spend the season with Sheffield Wednesday while goalkeeper Jamal Blackman links up with Rotherham.

In other transfer news, QPR signed striker Lyndon Dykes from Scottish side Livingston while midfielder Giles Phillips departed the London side in favour of a return to Wycombe Wanderers.

Phillips spent last season on loan with the Championship new boys but has now made the move permanent. Northampton Town captain, Charlie Goode also makes the step up to the Championship moving to last season’s play-off finalists, Brentford.

On the Ex-Royals front, Berkshire favourite Ali Al-Habsi announced his retirement from the professional game. The goalkeeper was instrumental for the Royals winning the Player of the Season award in his spell with the club. We wish Ali all the best in his next venture.

It has been a busy week for the Reading academy alumni with graduate Danny Loader confirming a free transfer to Portuguese giants, FC Porto this week. The youngster joined the side before being loaned to the Porto B team for the coming season.

Liam Kelly also re-joined Oxford United on loan from Feyenoord, Akin Odimayo was confirmed as a Swindon player after a successful trial last week and Marcel Elva-Fountaine, who was also released by Reading this summer has signed for Burnley.

Meanwhile in other former Royals news, ex-loanee, Saeid Ezatolahi confirmed a permanent move away from Rostov to Danish side, Vejle BK.

Finally, Reading Women confirmed the loan signing of Welsh international midfielder, Jess Fishlock. The 33-year-old joins the Royals on loan from OL Reign in the United States.
