Veljko Paunovic has emerged as a new candidate to take over from Mark Bowen in the Reading FC hotseat, the Reading Chronicle understands.

It had appeared that fellow Serbian Aleksander Stankojevic was set to take over, but it now appears that Paunovic is a contender to come to the club for his first managerial role in England.

It is understood that Mark Bowen has accepted a proposal to move back to his previous role at the club.

The 43-year-old has previously spent two years with Serbia U18, a year with the U19 side, a year with the U20 side and a spell with Chicago Fire between 2015 and 2019.

Paunovic parted ways with Chicago fire in November of last year.

Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune is also reportedly set to join Reading in a coaching capacity.

The 43-year old, who earned 46 caps for the South African national side as a player, will work alongside fellow former Manchester United player John O’Shea.
