As the 2019/20 Championship season finally concludes tonight (Tuesday), clubs have started to look forward to next season with any already returning for pre-season.

Clubs in the second tier have been busy behind the scenes with a variety of signings, manager updates and the final championship 2020/21 club ready to be confirmed. Fulham will face Brentford in the play-off final at Wembley tonight to confirm that place but below we look at the other news around the Championship from the last week:

Sheffield Wednesday grabbed the headlines this week as they were handed a 12-point deduction for the 2020/21 campaign. The Yorkshire based club will start next season in the negative after breaking spending rules over the past few seasons.

Wednesday were also active in the transfer market this week confirming the acquaintance of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru from Manchester City. The 19-year-old midfielder joins the Owls on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee while Millwall announced their second loan signing of the window with Tottenham striker Troy Parrott spending the season with the Lions.

This week has been a big one for managerial news with changes at Bournemouth and Birmingham, a new contract at Middlesbrough and Bristol City remain without.

Long serving manager, Eddie Howe resigned from his post with Bournemouth after relegation to the Championship so the Cherries join Bristol in the hunt for a new boss. Birmingham City confirmed the appointment of Aitor Karanka as their new number one after the departure of Pep Clotet before the season end.

Football favourite, Neil Warnock was also confirmed to be leading Middlesbrough for another campaign, as he remains at the realms for the 2020/21 season. The veteran also announced his first summer signing of the window picking up former QPR captain, Grant Hall on a free transfer.

Norwich lead the way for early transfer activity confirming another two signings this week. Kieran Dowell completed a move to the Canaries from Everton on a three-year deal. The 22-year-old spent the latter part of last season on loan at Wigan Athletic. The Championship returners also announced the arrival of Sebastien Soto from Hanover 96. The American striker makes it seven signings for the relegated side so far this summer.

Former Royal loanee, Nathan Ake also caught the headlines this week over news of a possible £41 million move to Manchester City. The defender suffered relegation to the Championship with AFC Bournemouth but has caught the eye of the Premier League powerhouse. Ake classes as a ‘homegrown’ player so Manchester City are keen on signing the 25-year-old Dutchman.

Ex Loanee Chris Martin was let go by Derby County and another former striker who failed to make the grade at the Royals, Brett Williams departed Weymouth. The Dorset side gained promotion to the National League via a playoff, but Williams now moves into a coaching role with AFC Totton.

In other ex-player news, Adam Federici has returned home to Australia after his release from Stoke City. The former Reading goalkeeper has signed for A-League expansion club MacArthur FC who will enter the league for the 2020/21 campaign. Federici joins another former Royal in being based in Sydney, Adam Le Fondre is currently the league’s top scorer as it heads to a conclusion next month. Academy products Aaron Tshibola, Tyler Frost and Adam Liddle also have new clubs in Kilmarnock, Crawley Town and Chelmsford City, respectively.
