It’s been a busy week in the Championship on and off the pitch. Big news come out of Wigan Athletic, Bristol City and Birmingham City as the season heads to a conclusion.

Below we take a look at news snippets, that could affect Reading FC next season:

Birmingham City manager, Pep Clotet left the club with immediate effect after a midweek defeat to Bristol City.

The ex Oxford boss was due to leave at the season end but another defeat to managerless Bristol, who parted company with long term manager Lee Johnson last weekend, was enough to see Clotet make way.

It’s been a busy week for Hull City off of the pitch. They confirmed the permanent signing of Mallik Wilks from Barnsley after a successful loan spell.

Hull have also been further active in the early transfer news in the championship confirming the signing of Festus Arthur from Stockport County.

The 20 year old joins Hull on a three year deal after impressing in the National League.

The Yorkshire based club were also heavily linked with French defender Thibaut Vion on a free after his release from Chamois Niortais.

The move fell through however after Vion failed a medical in London earlier this week.

Fulham and Leeds have also been busy early on as they confirmed the permanent signings of two of their vital loan players from this campaign.

Leeds confirmed the £16 million signing of Helder Costa from Wolves on a four year deal. Fulham meanwhile announced that Anthony Knockaert had made the permanent switch to London from Brighton.

The big news of the week undeniably falls to Wigan Athletic. The championship side announced their unfortunate administration after the current pandemic and now the former FA Cup winners face a 12 point deduction as they fight for survival.

With bidders interested, the club could be taken over but an immediate cash injection is needed.

This considered it is likely we will see an outflux of players from the side with youngster Jensen Weir already linked with a £500,000 move to Brighton. Would Reading fans be interested in any of the current crop at Wigan?

On the rumour mill, Fulham could be due a £7 million payment from Premier League champions, Liverpool after former youngster Harvey Elliott signed a professional contract with the Merseyside club. Elliott signed for the Reds after becoming Fulham’s youngest ever player at the age of 15. The case will go to a tribunal this summer.

In news of former Reading players, Stephen Quinn has signed a one year contract extension with Burton Albion reportedly taking a ‘massive’ paycut as the league one club look to adapt to the current financial difficulties.

Former manager Paul Clement also has a new job as he takes over as the new boss of Belgian side Cercle Brugge. It’s the first job for the Englishman after he was relieved of his duties at the Royals in 2018.

Meanwhile, academy product, Aaron Tshibola parted ways with Aves after the Portuguese club hit financial troubles.

Another to be released by his club is Reading favourite Adam Federici who leaves Stoke City after a mere 14 games in two years with the Potters. Tshibola (25) and Federici (35) now become free agents and could be tempting for a number of Championship sides.

Finally, in the world of the women’s game, Reading have been busy after their season was curtailed early. The Royals are down to 13 professional players after releasing a host of senior players including long time Royal and Reading fan Charlie Estocourt.

Maz Pacheco and Rachael Laws were also let go and this week have signed for West Ham and Liverpool respectively.
