Reading return to action against Stoke City at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow (3pm kick-off).

Mark Bowen has the luxury of a healthy squad to pick his starting XI from, with the majority of Reading's first team stars now back to full fitness after an enforced break of over three months.

But what are Reading fans hoping for the remainder of the season? With nine games to go - we asked a variety of Royals supporters for their expectations.

Here are a selection of the responses Royals fans gave:

"I think the main expectation that the fans will have for the rest of the season is to come out into the next few games with a fresh mentality and treat these last 9 games as a mini tournament.

"I just want us to find a system that works for next season whilst playing some nice football."

"In my opinion I think the expectations should be realistic for the rest of the season. I dream of the team getting into the play off positions, but I just feel the consistency isn't there and that will hamper the chances of a play off finish.

"But I hope the team can prove me wrong and go on a crazy win streak but I personally don't see that happening. For me, the expectations should be a top half finish."

"The remainder of the season is almost like a mini tournament in itself and although we'd all love it, I think playoffs is a bit of a stretch for this season.

"With the lack of football the players have had for the past few months, I don't think expectations should be drastically high but I think we should be looking to pick up at least 18 points out of 27.

"With relegation looking unlikely, I almost think that we should use the remainder of the season to prepare for next season."

"I don’t see why we can’t make the play-offs, because although we will most likely have to win 7 or 8 out of the remaining 9 games, we’ve got a large squad so we can rotate and manage each player’s game time well and also, the fixtures are very favourable.

"I think the players should continue to give 100% and not adopt the wrong mindset where they think the season is over because of our current league position.

"These upcoming games are important and the players should be aiming to finish at least 10th, if not better."

"I'm sure Bowen will have the players fired up RE possible new contracts or starting place for next season.

"Plenty of healthy competition in large squad so i would say top 8 would be a big achievement (can dream of play off place - smiling face with smiling eyes)."

"Anything below where they are now is major disappointment, players refreshed after break and have point to prove.

"We also have a pretty decent run of fixtures id say we will get 16-18 points from these.

"Young players like Olise, have chance to really prove themselves and Joao being back will help us play to full potential.

"We can hopefully then build on this for next season, reduce squad and wage bill size and get a team challenging in top 10."

"Of course all Reading fans would love to dream of mounting a late playoff push but realistically expectations should be just to win as many games and possible and climb as far up the table as possible.

"The players don’t have much pressure or expectation on them considering where we are in table so maybe that could work in our advantage as we’ve got nothing to lose."

"I don't really have any expectations for the end of the season beyond avoiding relegation, which should be relatively straight forward. We're pretty much marooned in mid table with the prospect of either promotion or relegation incredibly slim.

"I'd be more interested in individual performances and results as an indicator for next season, see whether Bowen is up for the job in the long term or not."

"With what is already a strong squad on paper and with Mark Bowen having time to work with the squad like a mini pre-season I think they should be looking at top 10. Play-offs are unlikely but should give it a good go."

"I expect the club to finish in between 10th and 12th position.

"The reason i believe we should achieve a finish there is because every got relatively easy fixtures coming up and we’re on good form and not got a lot of major injury’s only one major one."

"If we can keep key players fit (Swift, Moore, Joao) then a good run is possible. This is going to be such an unpredictable mini league, string a few wins together and who knows where we could end up."

"Can we have expectations, really? We are a team that's struggled for two or three seasons, and bar the play-off push under Stam... the issues have been there for a long time.

"If we could get to mid-table/10th come end of the season its been a great effort under Bowen. Yes we all want promotion, not many fans are as critical as me, but some realism is required."

"I honestly think the rest of this season is about building some good momentum up going into next season."

"Play-offs look a tough ask due more to the sheer amount of teams currently above us, will take a lot for them all to slip up! I’m very interested to see how Bowen approaches it with some players contracts due to end.

"I think if we are focussed and motivated and with the return of Lucas Joao then I think teams won’t relish playing us and we should be looking at a minimum of 18 points from remaining games."

"I honestly think the expectation for the remainder of the season is just to stay mid-table and not get pulled back into a relegation battle.

"There are too many teams above us for the play-offs to be a realistic target. There is an opportunity to start getting this squad ready for next season, players who aren't in Bowen's plans shouldn't be playing."

"We’ve got one of the easier ends of the season compared to other teams and a fully fit team bar Yiadom.

"With this in mind, I’d expect us to have a strong end to the season, give some of the youngsters some more game time and aim for a top half finish, which in previous seasons would be a massive improvement."

"Running up to lockdown, we looked quite strong, though we were lacking someone who could hold the ball up and bring others into play up front. Joao coming back into the fold could be exactly what we needed.

"If everyone stays fit, Bowen has a really good squad of players to pick from. A comfortable top half finish should be an expectation at this point."
