When you mention the 2005-06 season to Royals supporters, it conjures up incredibly fond memories of the greatest season in the history of Reading FC.

Whether it was Murty’s final day penalty against QPR, Kevin Doyle’s goal at Leicester, Leroy Lita’s overhead kick against Crystal Palace – the list goes on and on.

Here, however, are five players who were on the books during that season that you may not remember.

Eric Obinna

Obinna began his career in France scoring twice for Saint Etienne in seven appearances in 1999.

After spells at four other clubs, he joined Reading in 2005, making six substitute appearances during the record-breaking campaign.

He departed for Stevenage Borough in 2006, before spells at an array of clubs – including Daejeon Citizen, US Monastir and Etoile FC, for whom he won the 2010 Singapore League Cup.

Aaron Brown

Aaron Brown signed for Reading in January 2006, before joining Bournemouth in the 2005-06 season on loan.

He suffered an ankle injury in pre-season ahead of the 06-07 campaign before another loan spell with Walsall during the 07-08 season.

Brown was released following Reading’s relegation and played for 14 different clubs after his departure, including Stockport County, Telford United, Aldershot Town and Redditch United.

Jamie Young

Academy graduate Jamie Young made just one appearance during his spell in the senior squad and was eventually released at the end of the 05-06 season after a spell at Rushden & Diamonds on loan.

He moved down the A404 to Wycombe Wanderers before spells at other local clubs Aldershot and Basingstoke. Having grown up in Australia, Young returned to play for Brisbane Roar in 2005 for whom he’s since made 98 appearances for.

Sekou Baradji

Having just signed for West Ham United, the French midfielder joined Reading on a season-long loan for the 2005-06 season.

He only made one appearance in the league, against Sheffield United, and ultimately was released by West Ham upon his return to Upton Park.

Since then, Baradji’s clubs have included Martigues, Dijon, Valenciennes and currently Istres.

Michael Dobson

Dobson reunited with Steve Coppell on a loan deal from Brentford, Coppell’s former employers, in November 2005.

The loan was initially only until February although it was later extended for the whole of the promotion-winning campaign.

Dobson only featured once, in the 3-1 victory against Stoke City, and did not receive Championship-winners medal.

Recurring knee injuries sadly forced Dobson into retirement after a spell at Walsall in 2008.
