Reading’s efforts to bring in Alexandre Mattos as sporting director could collapse, according to reports in Brazil, with Mattos reportedly in discussion with other clubs.
UOL reports that Reading’s efforts to bring Mattos to the club in the senior role may be hampered by his inability to obtain a work permit.
The report suggests that two main obstacles, Brexit and the uncertainty following the Coronovirus outbreak, have led to Mattos being unable to secure a visa.
The same report also suggests that Atlético Mineiro are negotiating with Mattos to secure his services and have even agreed a deal with Mattos if his move to Reading collapses.
Mattos has previously worked at America, Cruzeiro and Palmeiras in Brazil.
Cruzeiro’s chief executive Pedro Lourenco told Brazilian media outlet otempo.com.br in January: "Alexandre has accepted a proposal from England but will help us over the next 60 days in this transition we are making."
