LAST Sunday saw the third and last RDAA match of the season fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Froxfield, writes Alan Hughes.

Forty anglers were booked in and the matchday weather was overcast with some light rain early on, mild and with a strong, cold wind blowing.

The Kennet had a slight colour and was towing slightly. Heavy overnight rain had significantly dropped the water temperature, which ultimately affected the match weights.

The total match weight was 117lbs 11ozs, at an average weight of 2lbs 15ozs per angler.

The top three teams were with TRBLAS with 34lbs 7ozs, Reading Fishing Club with 28lbs 6ozs and Yotac/21 Club with 12lbs 5ozs.

The match was won by Tony Tibble of TRBLAS. Fishing the first peg above the 'Gate' peg at the bottom of the straight on Froxfield A (Wides) section, he banked bream to 3lbs fishing bomb tactics, feeding red maggot, with red maggot on the hook to record a weight of 14lbs 4ozs.

Dave Clarke, fishing as an individual, was second.

Fishing the first peg below Lock 68 on Froxfield A (Wides) section, Clarke banked skimmer bream to 1lb 8ozs along with perch to 1lb 8ozs fishing pole tactics, feeding groundbait and pinkie, with pinkie and worm on the hook to record a weight of 13lbs 3ozs.

George Callaghan of Reading Fishing Club was third. Fishing the first peg below the 'Broken Bridge' on Froxfield B section, he banked roach, perch and gudgeon fishing pole tactics, feeding groundbait and pinkie, with pinkie and red maggot on the hook to record a weight of 8lbs 8ozs.

Section weights: A section (Wides to top of short pound) – 49lbs 2ozs; B section (Bottom of short pound to roadbridge) – 26lbs 1oz; C section (Roadbridge to broken bridge) – 13lbs 11ozs; D section (broken bridge to Lock 71) – 26lbs 13ozs.

Reading Fishing Club have won the Club Championship with 199lbs 9ozs and in second spot are TRBLAS with 189lbs 10ozs.

Terry Littlewood topped the weights table with 55lbs 15ozs and following him is Mick Donohoe with 44lbs 3ozs.

The points were headed by Donohoe with 50 and in second was Martyn Hutchins with 48.

Rob Ellis came first with four fish at a total weight of 36lbs 1oz in the Angling Trust Pike Match on Farnham Flint last Sunday.

A total of 22 people competed with 13 fish caught for a total weight of 97lbs 9ozs.

Martin Earl claimed three fish for 18lbs 10ozs to finish runner-up and in third was Robert Green with two fish for 18lbs 6ozs.
