Royals boss Mark Bowen hinted at the possibility of new arrivals before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.

Reading are yet to make a signing in the window, despite losing forward Lucas Joao to a long-term injury that is likely to rule him out until the latter stages of the season.

Speaking after Reading's narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Bristol City, the Royals manager confirmed that he was 'hopeful' of bringing in reinforcements in the remaining days of the window.

Bowen said: "Hopefully we'll be able to do some sort of business. As much as anything, new faces can give a club a lift as well.

"They give the squad, fans and the training ground a buzz which is important.

"I'm hoping we'll be able to announce one or two in the next 48 hours."

The Royals boss also issued an update on the future of Danny Loader and Tyler Blackett, with the duo's contracts expiring at the end of the campaign.

Bowen confirmed that Loader is 'no closer to signing his contract' but there has been a delay due to an issue with his agency with the offer still on the table.

The Reading manager said that he was 'not sure' about Tyler Blackett's long-term future, but he has 'told his wishes' to the Reading FC hierarchy.
