Royals boss Mark Bowen gave an update on the fitness of defensive duo Andy Yiadom and Matt Miazga after Reading's 1-0 defeat to Bristol City at the Madejski Stadium.

Miazga left the field on a stretcher in the FA Cup tie with Cardiff City, after landing awkwardly on his ankle.

Although Royals fans feared that the Chelsea loanee could be out for the majority of his remaining time at the club, Bowen issued a promising update.

The manager said: "He's got a grade two strain on his ankle ligaments so it's going to be a significant time. Between four and six weeks."

Bowen hinted that he'll be calling on young academy graduate Tom Mcintyre to fill the void left by Miazga during his absence.

Andy Yiadom, who hasn't featured for Reading since the 3-2 home defeat to Birmingham City, is back training on grass - Bowen confirmed.

“He is doing well out on the training ground. He hasn’t joined in with the group yet but he’s done a lot of work individually in terms of straight line and curved running to prepare him.

Bowen also earmarked the home game against Hull City as a possible return date for Yiadom.

"I know that he’s chomping at the bit so I think he might be back for the Hull City game but we will monitor each game.”
