READING Women warmed up for the resumption of the Investec League campaign this weekend with a 2-0 win at Division One South rivals Slough last Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

In a game they largely dominated, their goals came from an Emma Thomas penalty corner and Beth Marriott.

Making her return to the side after several years was keeper Sarah Ellis, who joined Clifton after leaving Reading.

Facing another of her former clubs, she was making her first appearance for a year, four months after giving birth to a daughter.

Ellis kept goal for England Over 35s when they won the 2018 World Cup Masters, with the team being skippered by Reading player-coach Jo Ellis (no relation).

Blues return to league action with a trip to Sevenoaks on Saturday (5pm).

They currently sit a clear second in the table, six points ahead of Harleston Magpies in third, but seven points behind unbeaten leaders Wimbledon.

Reading 2nds drew 1-1 with Spencer in Division One of the South Clubs League, while the 3rds inflicted a 2-0 reverse on Milton Keynes to secure their first Division 3a win of the season at the 13th attempt thanks to goals from Darcy Kaye and Lauren Cowling.

The club's Rockets team won 2-1 at Witney 2nds in Premier Division Two of the Trysports Three Counties League.

Reading Men 2nds hammered Marlow 5-1 in MBBO Regional One to extend their unbeaten run to 14 games and stretch their lead at the top of the table to 11 points over second-placed Amersham & Chalfont.

Archie Sweeting bagged a hat-trick to take his goal tally to 13 for the season, with Adam Price and Finlay Quaile adding one apiece.

In the same division, Reading 2nds edged home 2-1 against Newbury & Thatcham with Kayron Stagno netting both goals.

SONNING Ladies thrashed Teddington 2nds 7-0 in Division 3a of the South Clubs' League with Wendy Doolin, Rachel Muncey, Flora Grove-Smith, Erica Wong, Frankie Knight and Mai-Po Wan all getting on the scoresheet.

This Saturday, they are away to fellow top-four side Eastcote.

In Trysports League Premier Two, Sonning 2nds lost 1-0 away to Wycombe 2nds, and their second defeat of the season leaves them five points adrift of leaders Phoenix & Ranelagh, who slammed Oxford University 2nds 6-0 with Bev Blackburn, Lulu Broadbent, Emily Whybrow, Hannah White and Beth Harris all on the scoresheet.

Sonning 3rds hammered Maidenhead 4ths 5-1 to remain top of Division Two.

Sonning Men defeated Wallingford 4-0 in MBBO Regional Two with goals from Ian Gallagher, his 13th of the season, James Manser, Stephen Ridley and Pat Thomas.

They share top spot with South Berkshire, but have a game in hand along with a superior goal difference. This Saturday, they are away to Oxford Hawks 3rds.

Stephen Crowther bagged a hat-trick as Sonning 2nds drew 4-4 away to Thame in Division One, with Colm Hanlon adding the other goal, while the 3rds defeated Oxford University 4ths 2-1 at home in Division Three.
