READING Women finished third in Division One of England Hockey's indoor Super 6s Championship following the final round of matches last weekend, writes Dave Wright.

On Saturday, they defeated Beeston 4-3 with goals from Emma Thomas (2), Abbie Dixon and Jo Ellis, before losing 3-2 to Repton with skipper Thomas bagging a brace.

On Sunday, the Blues edged home 4-3 against Cambridge City with Dixon (2), Thomas and Fran Clements on target, and Dixon also netted in the 1-1 draw with Harleston Magpies, whose equaliser came with less than two minutes remaining.

Thomas finished with a total of 11 goals, the second highest in the division's scorers' list.

In the men's Premier Division, Reading ended up seventh of ninth after securing just four points from eight games.

Their only win came on Saturday when they beat Canterbury 6-4 thanks to an Adam Price hat-trick along with goals from Sam Welsh (2) and Peter Scott.

They then lost 4-3 to East Grinstead, with Ed Warren, Gareth Furlong and Price their scorers.

The Blues were involved in a remarkable game on Sunday when losing 6-4 to Holcombe. After taking the lead through Adam Pescod, they went 4-1 down, before Furlong, Craig Falconer and Pescod all netted in the space of three minutes to bring the scores level, only for Holcombe to net two more in the final four minutes.

Furlong scored twice in the last 10 minutes when Reading lost their final match 3-2 to Wimbledon, who were a man short on two occasions following yellow cards of two and four minutes duration for Rory Patterson.

In outdoor action, Reading Ladies 2nds defeated Marlow 3-2 in Division One of the South Clubs' League, while the Rockets lost 3-2 at Oxford Hawks 4ths in the Three Counties League's Premier Division Two.

SONNING Men remain three points clear at the top of the MBBO Regional Two table following a 7-1 win over neighbours Reading 4ths at the Berkshire County Sports Ground on Saturday.

There were two goals apiece for Noel Plant and Huw Thomas, along with one each for Ian Gallagher, James Manser and Ed Williamson.

Gallagher now has 12 goals for the season and Plant 10.

They will be seeking their 11th win in 13 games when they visit Banbury 2nds this Saturday.

Sonning Ladies returned to action in a rearranged fixture last Saturday with an excellent 4-1 away win over Milton Keynes in Division 3a of the South Clubs' League with Frankie Knight, Kate Pake and Erica Wong getting their name on the scoresheet.

Sonning 2nds remain second in the Three Counties League Premier Two thanks to a 2-0 win away to Oxford 3rds.

They are level on points with table-toppers Phoenix & Ranelagh – 4-1 winners over Marlow 3rds – but with an inferior goal difference.

The 3rds occupy a similar position in Division Two, having defeated South Berkshire 3rds 2-1.
