Reading FC star John Swift hailed his match-winning wonder goal against Queens Park Rangers as the best of his career.

The ex-Chelsea starlet let the ball bounce before rifling a 25-yard strike into the top left corner in a hard-fought 1-0 win against Mark Warburton’s side.

His sensational effort helped Reading claim their third successive clean sheet and back-to-back wins at Madejski Stadium.

“You only get two or three of those in your career,” declared Swift.

“I’ll be watching that one back 10 or 20 times when I get home. Yakou Meite was in my ear telling me how to celebrate.

“It’s probably the best of my whole career. You have to make the most of it.

“I can’t really explain it, you try it in training every day and it never comes off.

“But the most important thing is the win. I came off with 15 minutes to play but the lads went on to get a massive three points.”

Mark Bowen’s side faced a late onslaught at Madejski Stadium on Boxing Day as the visitors piled forward in the final 15 minutes.

Stopper Rafael Cabral made a string of saves – including one with his face – to keep Royals a goal to the good.

And Swift continued: “All plaudits should go to Rafael.

“It’s one of those moments when you come off of the pitch but you’d rather be on because your mind is in the game.

“I was watching every second go by and it was going really slowly. Rafael was making save after save.

“In the end, I just had to put my head down and listen to the crowd. It’s an unbelievable three points to take.”

The win took Reading up to 15th in the Championship table, three points Rangers but with a game in hand.

And Swift concluded: “Things are picking up. We’re doing everything we can to bring what we’re doing in training into the game.

“Today was one of the games where we got the ball down and played really well. We had the ball on the floor and it was an enjoyable game to play in.

“It’s another massive three points and a clean sheet to take into the next game.”

Royals travel to Preston North End on Sunday (3pm ko).
