Reading FC boss Mark Bowen said that he was very happy with the way his side performed in the second half after Reading's comprehensive 3-0 victory over Derby County.

Reading took an early lead through a Charlie Adam penalty, but had to wait until the second half before they doubled their advantage against ten men Derby.

Mark Bowen admitted he and his players were not happy with the first half performance but praised how his side came out after the break.

“When you are playing against ten men it can be a difficult situation because teams flip the way they go about the games. Being at home ourselves, the expectation is on us.

“At half time the players weren’t happy with what they had produced since the goal – they probably had too many chances.

“We talked at half time about being patient but moving the ball quickly.

"You have got to bring them out and create the spaces to play in. I thought we did that. I’m stood on the side very comfortable with the way the game was progressing.”

Mark Bowen also singled out Yakou Meite for praise following the game.

Meite scored Reading’s third goal from the second penalty of the afternoon, capping off an impressive individual performance.

“Special mention to Yakou Meite. Back in the position he thrives and did most of his best play last year.

“Not just the fact that he caused them problems going forward. Right to the end he was working back into the shape of the team in front of Chris Gunter, helping the team defensively.”

Derby picked up eight yellows after being reduced to ten men early on, but manager Mark Bowen said that he was not surprised to see the referee having such a busy afternoon.

“I think that was created through a little bit of frustration from their part and sometimes ten men are charging round and they can’t let people get passed them, so they leave a leg in and bring them down.

“That is expected. I don’t see them as a dirty side in any way but from our point of view, we moved the ball quickly and caused them problems especially in the second half.”

Reading have now secured consecutive clean sheets, which Bowen called the ‘key thing’ to take away following the victory.

“That is the key thing. When you get to a stage late on in the game and you are two up, you’re thinking barring a catastrophe the points are yours.

“Then you want a clean sheet to show for it. It is little things in my mind, we are back into positive goal difference which is a good reflection. We’ll take that all day long.”
