We’ve narrowed down the best Reading games of the last decade to find the top ten games since 2010.

Here are spots 10-6 in our countdown of the most memorable matches.

10 – Wigan Athletic, 2019 (H)

With the exception of Jaap Stam’s debut season, things have been pretty bleak for Royals fans in recent years.

One match that bucked that trend however was in March of this year, when Reading welcomed fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic to the Madejski.

Jose Gomes’ side came back and secured a vital 3-2 win in stoppage time, with

Yakou Meite stooping to head beyond Jones in the Wigan goal in the 97th minute.

The confidence boost that the Wigan victory provided for both fans and players alike helped ensure Reading would be playing Championship football this season.

9 – Chelsea, 2013 (H)

Reading’s single season in the Premiership at the beginning of this decade was devoid of much excitement for Reading fans, but the home clash with Chelsea provided just that.

Goals from Juan Mata and Frank Lampard looked to have given the visitors all three points, but Adam Le Fondre had different ideas.

Coming off the bench, Alfie sent the Madejski into raptures with two late goals to take Reading out of the relegation zone and earn Reading their seventh point in three games.

8 – West Brom, 2013 (H)

Another Premier League game, another filled with late drama.

Pavel Pogrebnyak was the hero for Brian Mcdermott’s team, scoring late on to complete a staggering eight-minute turnaround.

A brace from Romelu Lukaku has put the Baggies in the driving seat as the visitors dominated the opening hour at the Madejski.

Jimmy Kebe halved the deficit before Adam Le Fondre stepped up to level the game with a nerveless spot kick with two minutes left on the clock.

Pavel Pogrebnyak then secured Reading’s third league win of the season and completed the turnaround. The Russian bundled in from close range after Alex Pearce knocked the ball down, sending the Madejski crowd berserk.

7 – West Ham, 2012 (A)

One of the most memorable away games in recent Reading history, Brian McDermott’s side took a huge step towards promotion at Upton Park after defeating Sam Allardyce’s West Ham.

Despite falling behind through Carlton Cole, goals from Kaspars Gorkss and Noel Hunt gave Reading a half time lead.

Ian Harte’s spot-kick doubled Reading’s advantage, before Ricardo Vaz Te pulled one back for West Ham. Mikele Leigertwood late effort sealed all three points for Reading, who moved four points clear of West Ham with a crucial play-off showdown with Southampton looming large.

6 – Fulham, 2017 (H)
Perhaps the nerviest game of the top ten, the Play Off second leg against Fulham in 2017 was one of the most painful watches in Madejski history.

The two sides had played out a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage and the return at the Madejski was equally tight.

Yann Kermogant’s penalty early in the second half gave Reading the advantage in the 49th minute, an advantage that remained in tact thanks in no small part to Ali Al Habsi, who produced a number of stunning saves to keep his clean sheet in tact.

Let’s just not mention how the final went, shall we?
