Here is our player ratings from Reading’s disappointing 1-1 draw at Barnsley on Wednesday evening.

Rafael - 5

There was very little that Rafael could’ve done about Barnsley’s goal, with the Brazillian goalkeeper being left completely exposed by a defensive error.

Other than that, Rafael produced a number of smart stops to keep Reading in the game. His distribution did leave a lot to be desired at points, however.

Chris Gunter – 6

Drafted into the team for only his second start of the season, Gunter did reasonably well against Barnsley.

He provided an offensive threat, supporting the counter attacks well and didn’t do much wrong defensively.

Michael Morrison – 3

Made an inexcusable error to gift Barnsley their opener. Morrison was sacrificed in the second half with the Royals looking to get back into the game.

With a very unfortunate own goal and a big error in the last two games, Morrison needs a strong showing against Stoke City to restore confidence.

Liam Moore – 4

Much like against Birmingham, individually the captain didn’t have a terrible day.

However, as captain, he needs to do more to organize the Reading defence who looked all over the place at times at Oakwell.

Matt Miazga – 5

Miazga was probably the pick of the central defenders last night, showing some nice touches to take the sting out of the hosts pressure. Looked calm on the ball when Reading needed him to be.

Jordan Obita – 5

Much like Chris Gunter, Jordan Obita had a decent game after being drafted into the starting XI.

He did waste a good chance in the second half after a neat lay-off from Lucas Joao gave him an opportunity to shoot from inside the area – which he blazed over.

Andy Rinomhota – 5

Did the ugly stuff well again as he broke up a number of Barnsley breaks in the middle of the park.

Failed to make much of an impression with the ball at his feet, however.

Ovie Ejaria – 5

Showed flashes of what Reading have been missing in his absence, showing his ability in tight spaces on a number of occasions.

Looked to be trying to do too much at points however and was crowded off the ball on a few occasions. Lots of promise but not a lot of end product to show for his efforts.

Charlie Adam – 5

Looked dangerous from set-pieces and efforts from distance. Adam had a decent game but did fade as the 90 minutes progressed.

May have had a higher rating if he’d been substituted and replaced with fresh legs, as he didn’t stand out much in the closing stages.

Lucas Joao – 6

Two in two now for Joao who showed good striking instincts to grab the equaliser.

Needed to trap forward balls better as he did waste a few chances to hold the ball up and bring his teammates into play.

George Puscas - 4

Feeding off scraps, again. No shortage of work rate and endeavour but nothing to show for it.

Much like against Brentford, wasted a good chance in the opening period, attempting to take the ball around the keeper but failing to finish the chance off.

SUBS

Yakou Meite – 4

Missed a guilt-edged chance to give the Royals the lead from a free header shortly after coming on.

Sam Baldock - 5

Provided a typically energetic cameo in the closing stages but failed to find himself in a good position to get Reading the goal they needed.

Tyler Blackett – N/A

Not given enough time for a fair rating.
