RAMS Director of Rugby Seb Reynolds hailed a 'really good team performance' after they won 26-19 at Sale in National One, writes Ollie James.

The visitors had to repel a dominant opening from their opponents, but got in front thanks to a converted Jack Moates try on 32 minutes.

Rams pulled further ahead on the stroke of half-time, Ben Henderson powering over from close range after his side had gone through the phases.

Sale cut the deficit when flanker Ed Leatherbarrow touched down after the break, Chris Johnson adding the extras.

However, a brilliant double-blow from Rams effectively put the game to bed.

Firstly, in the 70th minute, Kieran Leicester grabbed his first National One try following brilliant work from Connor Hayhow, and two minutes later, Tom Vooght created space for Jak Rossiter.

The flying wing stepped several Sale defenders before sprinting to the try line, and while the conversion was unsuccessful, the score was 26-7.

Sale refused to give in, though. and earned themselves a deserves losing bonus-point thanks to late tries from Sam Dugdale and Andy Hughes.

Reflecting on another magnificent victory, Reynolds commented: "It was a really good team performance against a very strong Sale side.

"Early on they were all over us from an attacking point of view and they have threats right across their side.

"We had to weather a storm early on, but we did that well and managed to get in at half-time with a lead, which was pleasantly surprising.”

He continued: “It was really good. I thought Sale’s scrum was strong and we had to be very technical there and make sure we focused.

"Cam Zeiss, Niall Kidd and Ben Henderson did a really good job as well as Sean McDonnell-Roberts, who did an excellent job coming on as well. "Also, you have to give credit to Stevie Bryant’s performance in the centre. From a defensive perspective against a team who were looking to push the ball into the open space, it was just outstanding to see his tackle technique to shut those wide channels down.”

Rams remain third in the table as they return to Old Bath Road on Saturday to play Plymouth Albion.
