WOODLEY United earned a long-awaited victory with a 2-0 success at Chalfont Wasps in round two of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup.

With the club coming off the back of eight straight defeats it was the ideal way for new manager Jamie Williams to begin his tenure at the club.

The visitors began brightly when Ben Anderson, a player Williams has coached since the age of 14, fired past Wasps’ Daniel Brion 40 seconds after kick-off.

The lead could have been doubled three minutes later when Anderson passed to debutant Dylan Chaffin, who rounded the opposition keeper only to see him recover and parry the goal-bound shot away for a corner.

Following a period of dominance for the travelling side, Chalfont began to find a way into the game with their best chance coming moments before half time, blasting a free-kick over the Woodley cross bar.

The away side came out in the second half in similar fashion to the first, with Anderson having yet another chance straight from the kick off.

As Chalfont committed men forward, substitute Danny Blatchford, introduced two minutes previously, struck a low drive to double Woodley’s lead and secure victory.

Woodley now progress into the third round where they visit AFC Aldermaston next Tuesday (7.45pm), although they first return to Division One East action with a home game against Langley on Saturday (3pm).

Aldermaston, meanwhile, were held to a 0-0 draw in the league at home to Thame Rangers.

The 11th-placed Atom Men host Wallingford Town this Saturday (3pm).

In the Premier Division, Reading City suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Substitute Charlie McCuish gave the visitors the lead just before the hour mark, and Brad Pagliaroli doubled the advantage shortly after as the Citizens succumbed to defeat.

Reading City will hope to return to winning ways when they travel to Lydney on Saturday (3pm).
