Here are our player ratings from Reading’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to the hands of Birmingham City at the Madejski Stadium.

Rafael – 5/10

Although he conceded three goals, Rafael couldn’t have really done a lot more with any of them. The first was unlucky, the second was spectacular and the third he was left far too exposed and did well to keep out the initial effort.

Made a number of decent stops to keep Reading in the game until Birmingham sealed the victory.

Andy Yiadom – 6/10

Offensively Yiadom did well, getting up and down the pitch and looking to create opportunities. Put a few dangerous looking balls into the box.

Matt Miazga – 4/10

Taken off at half time to allow Mark Bowen to change formations. Wasted a couple of decent chances from corners, failing to connect properly with his headers.

Michael Morrison – 3/10

The own goal was unlucky, make no mistake about it. You can see exactly what he was trying to do, but unfortunately in football these things can happen.

Morrison was uncharacteristically shaky for large spells however and on another day could have been punished for mistakes around the Reading box.

Liam Moore – 4/10

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the captain’s performance that Reading needed from the skipper. The defence, especially in the second half, looked very open.

Omar Richards – 3/10

Left a lot of gaps for Birmingham to exploit in the Reading defence. Looked like he was lacking a little composure from the off and was at fault for the visitors third goal.

Andy Rinohmota – 5/10

Not the worst showing from Rinohmota. Battled really well out of possession and did his level best to limit the threat of Birmingham’s creative players.

Unfortunately, on the ball, he didn’t create much.

Pele – 7/10

Reading’s man of the match, for me. Pele worked really hard off the ball and delivered a number of really dangerous set pieces.

Garath McCleary – 3/10

Anonymous for long spells of the game. He didn’t create much of note from the midfield and failed to stamp his authority.

George Puscas – 4/10

Forced to feed off scraps for the majority of the game, Puscas worked tirelessly but failed to get in goalscoring positions.

Yakou Meite – 4/10

An impressive header levelled the game but aside from that, it was a pretty disappointing performance from Meite. Like Puscas, he was forced to feed off scraps, but was marked out of the game for long spells.

Substitutes

Lucas Boye - 3/10

Gave the ball away far too easily when in possession. Brought on at half time to try and change the game but only made a very minimal impact.

Charlie Adam - 5/10

Added some much needed composure into the Reading midfield when he came on and passed the ball very well.

Lucas Joao - 5/10

Gambled and got his reward late on with a goal. Did waste a glorious chance shortly before but it was good to see him get on the score sheet in only his second appearance after returning from injury.
