Minnesota United are willing to make Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone the highest-paid goalkeeper in MLS by signing him on a permanent basis.

The rumour, which has been subsequently confirmed by www.mlssoccer.com, was first reported on social media on Monday.

Mannone, who picked up the 2019 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, started all 34 of Minnesota United’s league matches last season – keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

Currently, former Aston Villa keeper Brad Guzan is the top earning goalkeeper in the MLS, according to MLS Players Association documents.

The 31-year-old has featured 47 times for the Royals since signing for an undisclosed fee in July 2017.

He left to join the MLS side on a one-year loan deal in February.
