THE additional RDAA match was planned to be fished on the Thames at Wallingford last weekend, but had to be rearranged due to the high water, writes Alan Hughes.

It was moved to the Kennet & Avon Canal at Froxfield.

Eighteen anglers were booked with no pegs remaining in the draw bag.

The weather was mainly dry, overcast, mild and with a slight breeze blowing. The Kennet & Avon Canal had a slight colour and was towing slightly. Total match weight on the day was 58lbs 14ozs at an average weight of 3lbs 4ozs per angler.

The match was won by Martin Hutchins of Excelsior.

Fishing on the 'Broken Bridge' peg on Froxfield B section, he banked perch and roach using a combination of pole and whip tactics, feeding groundbait & pinkie, and chopped worm & caster, with pinkie, red maggot and worm on the hook to record a weight of 14lbs 9ozs.

Simon Couling of TRBLAS was second. Fishing the third peg downstream of Lock 70 on Froxfield A section, Couling banked perch, roach and gudgeon.

He fished pole tactics, feeding groundbait & pinkie, and chopped worm & caster, with pinkie, red maggot, caster and worm on the hook to record a weight of 6lbs14ozs.

Section weights: A (bottom of short pound & turning bay) – 29lbs 13ozs; B (Road bridge to broken bridge) – 39lbs 3ozs.

Pangbourne & Whitchurch AC held their match on the A1 section of Froxfield and weights were very good with Mark Holmes taking the honours with 23lbs 14ozs of mainly bream.

Peter Seward claimed second place with 11lbs of perch and skimmers and completing the top three was Dave White with 7lbs 4ozs of perch and skimmers.
