A late brace from Adam Le Fondre sealed a dramatic 2-0 victory for Brian McDermott’s Reading in April 2012, in a match sandwiched between a trio of hard-fought away victories against West Ham, Brighton and Southampton.

Although the victories over fellow promotion chasers West Ham and Southampton are the most memorable in this winning run, the nature of the victory over Leeds United gave the players the boost required to continue their scintillating run of form culminating in a victory over Nottingham Forest at the Madejski which saw Reading promoted.

The game itself was an incredibly feisty affair, played in front of an almost full house at the Madejski Stadium.

Leeds were reduced to ten men early on, with Zac Thompson sent off for a rash lunge at Royals skipper Jobi McAnuff.

Danny Pugh was then lucky not to see red shortly afterwards after another harsh challenge on Jem Karacan.

Karacan had to be substituted later in the first half after a Michael Brown challenge.

It was Leeds who looked the more likely to open the scoring with Reading failing to make advantage of their numerical advantage.

Ross McCormack hitting the outside of the post before Robert Snodgrass spurned a golden chance to open the scoring, failing to beat Adam Federici in the Royals goal with a timid effort.

Reading had the lion’s share of possession for much of the game but couldn’t break down the ten men of Leeds United.

That was until the 84th minute. Minutes after having a goal disallowed for offside, Adam Le Fondre reacted fastest when Hal Robson-Kanu nodded across the goal to send the Royals fans into raptures.

Le Fondre then sealed all three points for the Royals, providing the final touch to a Jason Roberts shot from two yards.
