THEALE Golf Club members were asked to ‘Wear it Pink’ for two Texas Scrambles, one midweek and one weekend, to raise money for the Breast Cancer Charity.

They did this in great style and both competitions had excellent entries with almost everyone wearing something pink in a wide variety of garments from caps to shorts and socks, despite the colder weather.

There were two separate raffles with prizes donated by members. When the final figures are counted, the amount raised for the charity will be in the region of £1,000.

There was also some serious golf played.

In the seniors’ mid-week Scramble, the winning trio were Dave Coulson, Ron Cox and Andrew Parmenter and the weekend winning team consisted of Dave Clark, Darren Smith, and Andy Losely.

Twenty-eight teams contested the Corbridge Air Ambulance Cup at West Berks on Sunday, raising £735 for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

The team comprising Kevin Hopwood, Nick Jones, Mark Motion and Dave Ware won the Am-Am stableford competition with 97 points.

There was a four-way tie on 94 points for second place which was resolved on countback with Mark Charlton, Charles Dixon, Greg Collins and Simon Barrie securing second spot while Rob Graham, Martin Rolls, Terry Phelps and Patrick Wilmore were third.

Charles Dixon, who has been a member for nearly 40 years, scored his first ever hole-on-one when he aced the 14th hole.

Mark Richardson scored 41 points to win the Saturday stableford. Stuart Harrison was a shot behind in second place, while a three-way tie on 39 points between Ben Reffin, Mustapha Mzouri and Greg Collins was decided in that order on countback.

Tina Mulford continued her good form by winning Round Two of the Ladies Winter League on Saturday with 36 points. Sandy Miller with 33 points beat Gale McAuley on countback to take second spot.

The West Berks’ senior team remain unbeaten but lost their 100 per cent record in the M4 Seniors’ Winter League when they were held to a half at home in a high quality and hard-fought match against Sandford Springs.
