THAMES Promenade at Caversham, always popular for runners and dog walkers on a Sunday morning, is going to be extra busy this coming Sunday morning with the annual Rivermead 10k run.

Organised by MCC Promotions to encourage a "fitter and healthier Reading", the route covers two laps along the towpath while also taking in the National Trail.

With a 10am start, entries will be accepted right up to 9.45am – the point to sign up being next to Rivermead Leisure Centre.

It costs £15 to enter which includes a tee-shirt and medal.

There will be a non-secure bag drop next to the start/finish line which is situated next to Reading Rowing Club.

The current course record holders are Tom Dale (34min 45sec) with Reading AC's Naomi Mitchell the fastest female at 37:04.

I'M pleased to see Richard Witt's incredible work on behalf of the Reading FC Community Trust has not gone unnoticed.

The former club Academy and Highmoor Ibis (now Reading City) player is frequently praised for the work he's done, and I've often heard of how he has been assisting and advising youngsters over the last few years.

So it's no surprise to see Richard's name among the nominees for a gong at next month's Pride of Reading awards.

THE floodlights at Rivermoor Stadium have been heavily criticised before, but now brighter days and nights look assured for Reading City and Woodley United.

Howard Electrical Services, also involved at Madejski Stadium, have helped to install new lighting and cabling equipment at the Scours Lane ground and that led to Rivermoor receiving a two-year certificate from the Hellenic League.

City's public relations manager Ryan Sheehan praised the Howard company for their "tireless efforts", which saw them work as late as midnight to wait for the right level of darkness so the lights could be tested.

TV rugby presenter John Inverdale, having flown back to the UK from Japan, tells me he is in no doubt England will beat South Africa – they were too "static" against Wales – to become World Cup champions on Saturday.

I can't argue with him.
