LAST weekend saw the RDAA monthly additional match fished on Beats 4 & 5 of the River Kennet, writes Alan Hughes.

Eighteen anglers were booked in and the weather was dry, sunny, cold and with a slight breeze blowing.

The Kennet had a good colour, but was flowing very strongly and rising due to heavy rain the previous day.

The water temperature was also reported to be very cold, which goes along way to explain the poor results.

The total match weight was 3lbs 10ozs, at an average weight of 3ozs per angler.

The match was won by Steve O'Keefe of TRBLAS.

Fishing on the "sedges" peg downstream of Berkley Avenue road bridge on Beat 5B section, he banked three dace, two perch and one roach fishing maggot feeder tactics, with double red maggot on the hook, to record a weight of 1lb 5ozs.

Simon Couling and Alan Hughes, also both fishing for TRBLAS, were joint second overall.

Couling was fishing on the "straight" at the back of the houses on Beat 5A section and banked two roach fishing maggot feeder tactics, with double red maggot and worm on the hook, to record a weight of 13ozs.

Hughes was fishing the first peg upstream of the "Holy Brook" on Beat 5A section. He banked two roach and one perch fishing the same tactics also to record a weight of 13ozs.

Bracknell Avocets had eight anglers turnout for their match on the Kennet & Avon canal at Froxfield.

The clear sky, frozen windscreens and air temperature of three degrees at the draw was balanced by a bit of colour in the water to raise hopes.

The winner was Robin Reynolds with 3lbs 2ozs and in second place was Dave Brooks with 3lbs.

Third spot was claimed by Martyn Connolly with 2lbs 0ozs.Total weight on the day was 16lbs.

Looking at these two matches you can see the reason for fishing the winter RDAA matches at Froxfield.

This coming weekend will see the November RDAA match to be held on Beats 4 & 5 of the Kennet.
