READING ladies made it four wins from four Investec Women’s League games with a 1-0 victory over Canterbury at Sonning Lane on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

But Blues had to work extra hard to break down a resolute defence, and it wasn’t until just before the hour mark when Keelie Perham netted the winner.

They kept a clean sheet for the third time in our matches, with keeper Grace Lawes making her first appearance since rejoining the club from Surbiton.

Jo Ellis’ side face their biggest test of the season so far this coming Sunday (2.30pm) when they visit Wimbledon, who also boast a 100 per recent record and top the Division One South table on goal difference.

Included in the Wimbledon squad are former Reading goalie Aurora Mears and forward Georgie Blackwood.

Reading 2nds lost 2-1 away to Guildford in Division One of the South Clubs League.

The club’s Three Counties League Premier Division Two side went down 4-1 to Phoenix & Ranelagh, whose goals came from Holly Bentley (2), Bev Blackburn and Lucy Broadbent.

Reading men remain winless after six Premier Division games following their 4-3 home defeat at the hands of Hampstead & Westminster.

Both sides opened their goal account in the opening 10 minutes with Josh Kelly giving the visitors the lead and Charlie Ellison equalising with a penalty stroke. Player-coach Kwan Browne put Hampstead back in front on 16 minutes and Rupert Shipperley made it 3-1 two minutes before half-time.

Three minutes into the second half Paul Melkert extended his side’s advantage and they looked to be coasting. However, Blues didn’t give up and reduced their deficit with goals from Louis Gittens on 44 minutes and Peter Scott in the 57th minute.

Reading travel to Nottingham this Saturday (2pm) to face fellow strugglers Beeston.

In MBBO Regional One, Reading 2nds moved to the top of the table on goal difference thanks to a 7-2 win away to OMT, their goals coming from Jamie Rawlings (2), Ekamjot Bachu, Harry Benjamin, Tom Ferris, Mikey Gilson, Adam Price and Jamie Rawlings.

In the same division, Reading 3rds lost 4-2 at home to unbeaten Amersham & Chalfont, their goals coming from Scott Pearce and Joe Rogers.

SONNING men made it four wins out of four in MBBO Regional Two by defeating Oxford Hawks 3rds 5-1 with goals from Ian Finlayson, Ian Gallagher (2), James Manser and Jonathan Sharp.

In Division 3a of the South Clubs League, Sonning ladies drew 1-1 at Salisbury, thanks to a goal from Mai-Po Wan.

This Saturday (10.30am) they host Reading 3rds, who slipped to the bottom of the table after losing 3-0 to Eastcote last weekend.

Sonning Ladies 2nds dropped their first points of the season in Three Counties League Premier Division Two when they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Wallingford 2nds.
