MARLOW retained the Croxson Cup after their annual encounter against rivals High Wycombe but the result could not have been closer on Saturday.

The Croxson Cup has been played for since 1974 and involves all available teams, which meant there were 11 matches in all with around 250 players involved.

With only the men’s first team match to be played, Marlow were ahead by only one goal after all the scores added up.

This resulted in a very competitive match with some excellent hockey being played and the result was in doubt until near the end when Wycombe scored twice to level at 3-3.

The goals for Marlow came from Chris Sewell, Tom Gray and Lewis Goodman and Wycombe’s scorers were Jack Whelan (2) and Jack Simkins.

Marlow were happy to have held opponents from two leagues above them.

In the ladies first team match, Marlow were favourites being higher ranked in league terms and won 3-0. Their goals were scored by Jen Martin, Nat Riches and Emily Miskell
