ANDY Knapper picked up his second national triples champions trophy when his Tilehurst B.C. team of Scott Winskill and Mark Hancock had a hard fought 16-13 win over Cumbria in the national finals held at Leamington Spa final.

Having come from behind to beat Bucks in the semi final they looked to be having a horror start to the final.

Dropping a four on the first end, and a further five down in the second, Knapper drew the perfect bowl to claim a shot.

It continued neck and neck before Tilehurst first moved ahead 14-13 on the 16th end.

The final two ends were nail-biting for both sets of supporters, but Tilehurst, bowling superbly, held their nerve to claim the title.

Recently called into the England under 25 squad Scott Winskill showed the quality to suggest he will be around the England camp for many years.

With Mark Hancock decisive in the engine room they set the foundation for Knapper, already a Commonwealth gold medal winner, to show his outstanding ability.

The Tilehurst triple will now represent England in the British Isles International Competition.

“It’s been a fantastic week and winning a national title is something really special,” said Hancock. “Having lost in the semi-final of the fours it was great to finish the job and bring home the trophy.”
