Clubs in the EFL will now have to interview at least one black, Asian or ethnic minority candidate for a first-team manager's position from next season.
The pioneering move comes after an 18-month trial period, which saw clubs interview at least one BAME candidate for managerial positions in first-team football.
An EFL statement read: "The EFL has made a further commitment to improving equality in first-team football by introducing a recruitment code into regulation in order to help address the under-representation of BAME managers."
Meanwhile, Debbie Jevans CBE has been appointed EFL executive chair.
Ms Jevans joined the EFL as an independent non-executive director in 2014, and has been operating as interim chair of the league for nine months. She is stepping into the role until a new CEO has been appointed.
