LIAM McTiernan came back from a week’s break to race away to victory in the third Kingfisher Grand Prix of the summer.

The tournament was the most anticipated in the series so far as it pitched the two runaway leaders at the top of the leaderboard together for the very first time – McTiernan and Daniel Moses – and it was the England number 29 star who came out on top by a well-rounded 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 scoreline in a top-class, hard-hitting final which showed off both players’ array of skills to the maximum.

McTiernan’s path to the final included a stunning three-set victory over Ukranian star Artur Morar in the quarter-finals and an equally impressive semi-final victory over Lewis Waddup, who had earlier avenged last week’s defeat by Shinfield’s Mark Banks in his last-eight clash.

McTiernan is yet to lose a single leg so far in the series – an incredible achievement with the standard of the competition being so high.

Moses’ path to the final was slightly less straight forward as he had a scare in his quarter final against Krasi Ivanov, losing the first leg before eventually coming through in four in the best-of-five encounter.

His semi-final opponent was top junior girl player Jyothi Ghanta who had a fantastic run to the semis with, in particular, an eye-catching five=set victory over the experienced Richard Rosinski in her quarter-final match-up.

Ghanta has extended her lead at the top of the junior leaderboard with this brilliant performance.

The consolation event this week was won by Hamilton Road’s star player Hari Gehlot, who ran out a comfortable 3-0 winner over Rob Gladstone in the final.

In the overall standings, McTiernan has a ranking of 198, putting him ahead of Moses (193), Waddup (149), Gehlot (114), Banks (105), Morar (86.3), Ghanta (81.3) and Ivanov (72).

The top 10 are rounded off by Joe Barraclough (72) and Ben Law (44).

Cash prizes are awarded to a number of categories in the series, which continues next Monday.
