Reading defender Andy Yiadom has been called up to the Ghana squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

His consistent performances in the Championship for the club have obviously not gone unnoticed as he will play in his first major tournament for his country.

The fullback was a mainstay in the side since his arrival from Barnsley in June 2018.

Appearing in all but two of the league matches, including a goal in the 3-0 win over Hull City in September, Yiadom was a stand-out performer in Berkshire.

The 27-year-old came second in the Fans’ Player of the Year vote, losing out to academy graduate Andy Rinomhota.

Looking to add to his five caps for the Black Stars; Ghana will come up against Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage of the prestigious tournament.

Four wins in the past means Ghana have the most wins of the West Africa region; and will hope to add a fifth.

This means that Yiadom will be return late to pre-season with the Royals; but hopefully with a gold medal to show for it.
