READING FC women's three-match winning streak came to an end as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Everton in the FA Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The visitors were the better side in the opening stages, and Remi Allen put them in front after just eight minutes, tapping home Natasha Harding's low ball into the box.

Everton responded quickly, and skipper Danielle Turner almost found an equaliser on 20 minutes, but Grace Moloney produced a fine diving stop.

Dutch international Inessa Kaagman got the Blues level five minutes before the break, capitalising on Maloney's clearance to chip home from the edge of the box.

The hosts picked up where they left off after the break, with Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah firing home from 20 yards on 50 minutes from a brilliant run from left wing.

The hosts extended their lead seven minutes later, as Simone Magill pounced from six yards, when Moloney parried Kaagman's long range strike into her path.

However, Reading refused to throw in the towel and defender Fara Williams slotted home from close range, as Everton failed to clear a set piece.

Kelly Chambers' side did threaten an equaliser in added time, but Everton had just enough to hold on.

The result leaves Reading one point outside the top four, and manager Kelly Chambers commented: “I am really pleased with the performance, the girls battled really hard, particularly in the second half and I think we were unlucky not to get something from the game.

“Everton reacted well to our goal and that meant we had to defend more in the first half, and after the start we had to the game, that is disappointing.

“We know that it is never easy to come here and get a result and Everton are a good side, probably better that where their league position has them.

“In terms of effort I have no fault with the players, they looked to get back into the game and put Everton under pressure, but at the end, it was not quite enough.

“On another day, some of the chances we had in the second half go in, and we are talking about a different result.”

Reading FC finish their campaign at home to Chelsea on Saturday, May 11.
